Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers Triumph Over Tamil Nadu Dragons to Enter Final
The Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers secured a thrilling victory over the Tamil Nadu Dragons to book their place in the final of the Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25. The high-octane semi-final clash at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium ended in a dramatic 2 (6) - (5) 2 penalty shootout triumph for the Tigers.
A Nail-Biting Encounter
The match saw both teams put on a spectacular display of skill, determination, and resilience. The Tamil Nadu Dragons struck first in the 18th minute, with Nathan Ephraums converting a brilliant assist from Mohammed Raheel. However, the Tigers remained undeterred and found an equalizer in the 30th minute through Pardeep Singh Sandhu, thanks to an excellent setup by Abhishek.
Just two minutes later, the Dragons reclaimed their lead as Selvam Karthi skillfully flicked a pass from Anand Lakra past the Tigers’ goalkeeper, Jamie Carr. Despite playing with a one-man disadvantage due to Sebastien Dockier's suspension in the 34th minute, the Tigers showcased incredible resilience, narrowly missing an equalizer when Atul Deep’s chip shot hit the post.
Tigers’ Late Comeback and Penalty Shootout Drama
In the 53rd minute, the Tigers struck back with a perfectly executed play from Gauthier Boccard, leading to Sam Lane's crucial equalizer. The Tigers almost clinched the match in regulation time when Jugraj Singh scored from a penalty corner, but the goal was overturned after a successful referral by the Dragons.
With both teams deadlocked at 2-2, the match was decided through a tense penalty shootout. Both sides missed two of their first four attempts, with Nathan Ephraums failing to capitalize on a golden opportunity to seal the win for the Dragons. In the sudden death rounds, Sukhjeet Singh, Sean Findlay, Florent van Aubel, and Abhishek converted for the Tigers, while Moritz, Govers, and Ephraums found the net for the Dragons. Ultimately, Uttam Singh’s miss handed the Tigers a hard-fought victory.
