Manoj Kumar Retires from Boxing, Focuses on Coaching

Renowned Indian boxer and two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Manoj Kumar bid farewell to his illustrious career on Thursday. He now aims to train young boxers and share his experiences with them.

Manoj Kumar’s Glorious Career

Hailing from Kaithal, Haryana, Manoj Kumar carved a niche for himself in Indian boxing. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Games. Additionally, he secured two bronze medals at the Asian Championships.

Manoj Kumar also represented India at the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics, reaching the pre-quarterfinals on both occasions.

Retirement Decision and New Beginnings

Manoj stated, "This is a well-thought-out decision because, as per international rules, I cannot compete in amateur events after turning 40. I am retiring as a content man after representing my country to the best of my ability."

While bidding farewell to his boxing career, he expressed gratitude to his elder brother and coach Rajesh Kumar, who played a pivotal role in his journey. Manoj also earned a coaching diploma from the National Institute of Sports, Patiala, in 2021.

Now, Manoj Kumar, along with his brother, will train young pugilists at their academy in Kurukshetra. He said, "This academy will serve as a platform to share our experiences and lessons so that India can produce future Olympic medalists."
