Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty Fall in Semifinals at India Open 2025

India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, saw their run at the India Open Super 750 come to a halt in the semifinals. The dynamic duo faced a tough straight-game loss to Malaysia's Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin in New Delhi. The Malaysian pair displayed an exceptional performance to defeat the Indians 21-18, 21-14 in a quick 37-minute encounter.

Satwik and Chirag began the first game with promise, using a balanced approach of offense and defense to gain a 9-6 lead. However, their Malaysian opponents turned the tables, taking five of the next six points to edge ahead at the mid-game break.

Despite regaining momentum briefly and securing a 15-12 advantage after the interval, the Indian duo could not maintain control. A spectacular seven-point streak from Goh and Izzuddin sealed the first game in their favor.

The second game started with the Malaysians storming to a 5-0 lead, putting the Indians under immediate pressure. Chirag’s strong serving helped reduce the deficit, but Goh’s sharp reading of the game and impeccable front-court play kept the Malaysian team in the driver’s seat.

The Indians showed resilience by leveling the score at 13-13, but unforced errors and a warning for delay disrupted their flow. The Malaysians capitalized, gaining a three-point cushion at 17-14 and then winning six consecutive points to close out the match with a decisive finish.

This semifinal defeat marks the second consecutive top-four finish for Satwik and Chirag this season, underlining their consistency but also highlighting areas for improvement. Despite the loss, they remain one of the most formidable doubles pairs on the international circuit, known for their aggressive gameplay and synchronized teamwork.

The experience from this match will undoubtedly serve as valuable preparation for upcoming tournaments. With their proven ability to compete against the best, Satwik and Chirag are poised to make stronger comebacks and continue raising India’s profile in global badminton.
