Tejas Shirse Breaks National Record in 60m Hurdles Again at Miramas Athletics Meet

Indian hurdler Tejas Shirse has once again etched his name in the record books by breaking the national record in the men’s 60m hurdles for the second time in just two weeks. Competing at the Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting 2025 in France, the 22-year-old clocked 7.64 seconds to secure a second-place finish.

A Record-Breaking Streak

Just last week, Shirse had set a new national record with a time of 7.65 seconds at an indoor event in Luxembourg. However, he surpassed his own achievement in Miramas by shaving off 0.01 seconds from his previous mark. Earlier in the day, he ran 7.70 seconds in his heat before improving his time in the final.

Top Competition at Miramas

The race saw fierce competition, with Spain’s Enrique Llopis taking the top spot with 7.54 seconds. France’s former world junior champion, Wilhem Belocian, secured third place with a time of 7.67 seconds. The Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting is a prestigious World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver level event, making Shirse’s performance even more significant.

Close to World Athletics Indoor Championships Qualification

Shirse’s impressive mark of 7.64 seconds was just 0.07 seconds shy of the qualifying standard (7.57) for the World Athletics Indoor Championships 2025, which is scheduled to take place in Nanjing, China, in March. Had he met the qualifying mark, he would have secured a direct entry into the global event.

A Rising Star in Indian Athletics

Shirse has been consistently making headlines with his performances. Last year, he had also set a new national record in the men’s 110m hurdles at a meet in Jyvaskyla, Finland. His steady progress suggests he is on the verge of achieving even greater milestones in his career.

Jyothi Yarraji’s Performance

India’s Jyothi Yarraji was also in action at Miramas, competing in the women’s 60m hurdles. She finished fifth with a time of 8.10 seconds, just 0.06 seconds away from her own national record, which she had set last week in Nantes. France’s Laëticia Bapté won the women’s race with a time of 7.93 seconds.

Upcoming Challenges

Both Tejas Shirse and Jyothi Yarraji are set to compete again on Sunday at the Meeting de l'Eure in France, where they will aim to continue their strong performances and push for international qualifications.

Shirse’s record-breaking spree has put Indian athletics in the spotlight, and with his unwavering determination, he is well on track to making a mark on the global stage.
